Robust, design-matched components.
The robust G3 hydrostatic transmission is design-matched to the power unit, ensuring smooth, responsive control while delivering more power to the drive tires and cutting deck. The unit features a 21-cc capacity with piston pumps and high-torque Parker wheel motors.

Extended service life.
The CoolFan™ pump cooling system and 7 micron absolute filter provide a clean, cool internal environment and extend the transmission fluid change interval to up to 1,000 hours.

400D 1.3L
The 400D mower is powered by a 1.3L, 3-cylinder, liquid-cooled Kubota® Clean Diesel horizontal crankshaft engine. The engine is Tier 4 compliant and is horizontally mounted to provide longer service life.

440 EFI/ETC
The 440 mower is powered by a 993-cc, V-twin, air-cooled Vanguard® BIG BLOCK™ EFI gasoline engine with Electronic Throttle Control. The engine is horizontally mounted to provide longer service life.

Our extra deep, 5.5-inch DuraMax® decks are made from years of innovative airflow research and feature specially-designed cutting chambers that deliver enhanced airflow for a better cut quality.

Anvil-edged construction.
Plus, an extra layer of heavy-gauged formed steel sits over the deck’s leading edge for greater overall durability and impact protection.

Massive 8-inch spindle flanges.
Spindles are anchored to double layers of robotically-welded, formed steel in a 6-bolt pattern to spread the force of impact for greater strength in commercial applications. Triple-strength decks are nearly 1-inch thick in stress zones with durable Sentry™ spindles mounted on spindle planes that are more than 25% thicker than 1/4 inch. Spindle guards shield the housing and seal lower bearings from grass wrap and dirt ingestion. High-impact, high-rotational-speed bearings with durable seals extend spindle life.

Adjustable discharge options.
Designed to let you change the way you mow without changing decks, Grasshopper decks let you easily convert between standard Side-Discharge, Down-Discharge Mulching, and PowerVac Collection.

Features May Include: 

Horizontal Crankshaft Engine

• The horizontal crankshaft engine offers rear access to the clutch and provides more uniform oil cooling, better airflow, and better lubrication, all of which combine to increase the durability and performance life of the engine.

High-Temperature Clutch Cut-Out

• The high-temperature clutch cut-out keeps tabs on the engine temperature gauge, automatically shutting off the PTO in the rare event it overheats. This is a particularly useful safeguard in multi-operator environments or dry, dusty conditions. Only available on the 400D.

SmartFrame

• A flexing 3-piece SmartFrame™ construction limits vibrations, providing a smooth, shock-dampening ride.

Low Center Of Gravity

• 400 Series mowers have a single-fill fuel tank mounted beneath the seat, lowering the center of gravity and allowing the machine more traction and stability.

Premier Suspension Seat

• The premier suspension seat is fully adjustable, iso-mounted to reduce vibrations, and covered in breathable Cordura® fabric. The seat adjusts to the operator's weight and can be moved fore and aft. The backrest tilts, the armrests fold, and the lumbar support can be adjusted as necessary.

MARBAIN® Cutting Blades

• MARBAIN® cutting blades are 1/4-inch thick and are through-hardened to hold their edge longer, delivering a better cut and twice the life of aftermarket blades.

Hydraulic Height Adjustment

• Hydraulic height adjustment allows operators to raise and lower the cutting height at infinitely variable settings with a toggle switch control.

Ultimate Operator Station

• The Grasshopper Ultimate Operator Station™ is centered around a deep-cushioned seat featuring coil-spring suspension and padded lumbar support. The seat is iso-mounted to reduce vibration and covered in cool, comfortable Cordura® fabric that won't tear or crack with extended use.
• It also features easy-to-reach operational controls, including the throttle, ignition, and push/pull PTO switch. Plus, QuikAjust Tilt™ dual levers with a 9-inch adjustment range allows for a more custom fit and will automatically return to neutral from either forward or reverse.
